The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has confirmed receipt of a congratulatory letter written by the President of the United States Joe Biden.

President Biden mentioned the good relations and long-lasting partnership between the two states as “rooted in common values” while recalling the personal connection his family has to the country.

Under this context, the US President made a reference to his late son Beau Biden who was part of the American peace serving troops during the war in Kosovo “working to advance peace and the rule of law”.

Furthermore, Biden wrote that the United States priority is to work with his counterpart in issues pertaining to the rule of law, tackling corruption and protecting the rights of ethnic and religious minorities as well as recovering from the pandemic and securing sustainable and economic development.

He also responded to President Osmani’s plea to the US in proving vaccine supplies.

“The United States has provided an initial $4 billion contribution to GAVI to support the COVAX program to supply safe and effective vaccines for countries in need, and I was pleased to see Kosovo has begun receiving its allotment from COVAX”, wrote Biden.

Another important issue emphasized by the US President was the continuation of dialogue with Serbia.

“The United States will continue to support efforts to secure a lasting peace through productive dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia and ultimately a comprehensive normalization agreement, which we believe should be centered on mutual recognition”.
