Albania and North Macedonia are ready to hold their first Intergovernmental Conference, but this will also depend on whether an agreement is reached between member states in June.
These were the words echoed by the Head of the EU Delegation to Albania, Luigi Soreca, during a meeting with youth.
“Albania and North Macedonia have now fulfilled all the conditions that were requested by the Council. Both countries deserve to hold the first Intergovernmental Conference together”, stressed the EU Ambassador.
He said that it is important to make all the necessary efforts to convince member states that the two Balkan countries have done what they were asked to.
“We hope that all member states, the 27 of them, take this decision in June and now we are making sure that Albania and North Macedonia go through this process together. We need to assure that all efforts are made to convince member states that these two countries have undertaken all the necessary steps to launch accession negotiations”, Ambassador Soreca said.
