Albania and the US signed a memorandum of understanding that aims to prevent the looting and trafficking of cultural objects.
The news was announced by the US embassy to Albania through a post in their official Facebook page.
The memorandum was signed by the minister of culture, Elva Margariti and the Acting Assistant Secretary of State, Matthew Lussenhop in Washington D.C.
The US embassy also noted that over the past 2 decades, the US has been very active in the protection of tangible and non-tangible cultural heritage in Albania through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation.
In addition, they added that through this next step, the US aims to further protect the values and wealth of our cultural objects.
In recent years, there haven’t been a few cases in our country, of individuals abusing with cultural objects holding historical values, with the goal of trafficking them.
