According to a member of DP’s National Council, Roland Bejko, the positon of the current DP chair, Lulzim Basha, in regards to the US Department of State’s non-grata designation of the party’s historic leader, Sali Berisha, is a delicate one and it could possibly risk dividing the party.

In turn, he considers this a delicate moment for the Democratic Party because in either case, even if Basha does side with the US, the Democratic Party will step into dangerous territories that might end up triggering internal conflicts.

During Euronews Albania’s political panel show ‘NOW’, hosted by Erla Mehilli, DP member, Roland Bejko, also argued that Basha has often in the past, chosen to solve issues through silence, and at this time, he could very well be waiting for a signal from the US or any other piece of information that might lead him to pick a side and stick with it.

“He could just be waiting for things to unfold and resolve themselves, or he could be waiting for the US to just leave it at that and not press it any further,” – said Bejko, adding that according to him, the chances for this to happen are minimal seeing that “when the US starts something, they won’t just give up half-way through”.
