“The greatest harm is in establishing a media police as foreseen by this agency”. These were the words used by Luciano Boci, an MP of the Democratic Party when he warned of the threats of the newly created Agency for the Media and Information by the government of Edi Rama.

“Formalizing a media police that attacks the freedom of the press”, Boci said.

He emphasized that the covert priority of the government is to install the dictatorship of the image.

“The dictatorship of the image, which is a feature of regimes, is embedded along these lines and enables strict media control”, the Democrat MP said.

Boci also warned that the Democrats will raise the issue in parliament and demand accountability from the government on how will this agency operate.

“One of the main mechanisms is fighting it in parliament. Luckily, we’re heading the parliamentary committee for the media, so we will call in representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office to explain how (the agency) will function”, said Boci.

According to him, the agency was created to manipulate the public.
