According to figures provided by the International Labor Organization, Albanians spend too much time in the workplace but their wages and productivity are low.

Accordingly, 9% of the employed in Albania work over 48 hours a week, in other words, one day more than the allowance from the Labor Code, 40 hours per week.

The rest of the labor force works 35-48 hours a week, and only 7.9% spend less than 35 hours at work.

On average, employees work 41 hours/week, as opposed to 40 hours permitted by law.

According to Albanian legislation, working hours are determined through normative acts signed by the Council of Ministers in the collective, or individual, work contract, within maximum weekly hours allowances.

A normal day of work in Albania should last no longer than 8 hours, or put differently, 40 hours per week, while those 18 and younger should not work for more than 6 hours a day.

Employers may ask for extra hours for as long as required or necessary, but only after taking into consideration the personal and family conditions of the employee.

In Albania, according to INSTAT, the sectors working longer hours are the production industry (45.8 hours); trade, transport, business, and administrative services (44.8 hours). Construction workers work an average of 42.7 hours per week. While those working less are public administration workers, with 39.8 hours a week.
