During a meeting in Elbasan, Democratic MP Grida Duma declared that DP’s parliamentary group has called on Lulzim Basha to step down as chairman of the Democratic Party.
According to her, DP came out third in the local by-elections that took place on March 6 and something needs to be done in order to put an end to the series of consecutive letdowns.
“No mechanisms, not even a pity, which in the majority of cases surrounds these individuals’ appointments as party leaders instead of them being voted in by party members – with all due respect – but they shouldn’t be used to further abuse the Democratic Party,” – said Duma.
The Democratic MP emphasized that Basha should present his irrevocable resignation by Thursday.
“There’s no other way except for resigning. The shares belonging to Democrats cannot be abused by a single shareholder,” – said Duma.
During the local by-elections on March 6, which took place in 6 municipalities, DP came out last in 5 of them.
So far, DP chair, Lulzim Basha has given the impression that he is open to the possibility of stepping down, whereas many Democratic officials have called for his and Berisha’s resignation.
