Yesterday, Tirana’s District Prosecution signed 22 arrest orders for citizens selling contraband goods online.
These same individuals had also set up a scheme that allowed them to evade their taxes and fiscal contributions.
As a result, the head of Albania’s Online Sales Association, Valer Pinderi, was invited to Euronews Albania to give his take on the issue of informality.
According to Pinderi, these arrests don’t actually solve the problem as the issue is deeply rooted in the way we do business in Albania, especially in regards to the process of selling online, which is the very last link in the long myriad of irregularities.
“There are numerous ways we can solve this problem but it will take time because this is a progressive and continuous issue. It can’t be solved at once,” – he said.
Pinderi also underlined that around 3500 individuals are involved in selling about 16.000 packages per day in Albania.
The newly set up Association of Online Sales includes 35 different companies, whose goal is to formalize this market in Albania, said Pinderi.
