Kosovo only supports the Berlin process and the Common Regional Market, which exist within the EU and are inclusive. This is why we don’t support any other parallel initiatives.

These were some of the remarks made by Kosovo’s PM Albin Kurti during a joint press conference that took place earlier today between him and the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in Berlin.

By making this statement, Kurti was once again steadfast about Kosovo’s refusal of the Open Balkan initiative.

Moreover, Kurti reiterated his request for the recognition of Kosovo’s independence by 5 other EU member states, which have yet to do so.

In addition, he added that the moment has come for the visa regime, imposed on Kosovo by EU member states, to be lifted.

“Kosovo’s independence should be recognized by as many countries as possible, which should include 5 EU member states that have yet to do so. This way, we can stop the formation of harmful false narratives. I asked that Germany bring forward visa liberalization for Kosovo. In July, it will be 2 years since visa liberalization was first recommended for Kosovo. Now is the time to say enough is enough because Kosovo has finished all of its homework,” – said Kurti.
