Albanian President Ilir Meta has sent a letter to the Constitutional Court after the latter’s decision to overturn a lawsuit by the Supreme State Audit.
In his letter, the head of state strongly opposed the court’s ruling and sought from its members to “decide based on the Constitution and not by external influences”.
The Constitutional Court decided to overturn by a majority of votes the request made by the director of the Supreme State Audit Arben Shehu to “repeal Article 50, point 1 and 2, on the finances of local governances” as they do not comply with the law.
Meta raised the alarm that such a decision undermines public finances and called on the Supreme State Audit to “engage in a full check up on the way public funds are used”, until the formation of the new parliament following the April elections.
