Boiken Abazi, the former chair of Vetevendosje in Albania, explained during an interview on Euronews Albania that the reason behind his decision to step down was to claim responsibility for the defeat at the general polls held in April.
Asked if he felt personally disappointed by the elections, he responds to have had higher expectations, although pointing out that the party “successfully proved that votes were stolen”.
In addition, he added that he had expected to win at least one seat in parliament, however, ranked the former as third among priorities.
“The most important thing is for the organization to grow, spread the spirit of the Movement, and thirdly the mandate”
Abazi confirmed that he will remain a member of the party, adding that it remains to be seen what shape will the party take after his resignation.
“I do not know what shape it will take, whether it will remain the same or adopt a new one. For the moment, the priority remains on the elections and the runoff in Kosovo”, he said.
According to him, Albania needs a political subject like Vetevendosje, which ties social democracy and state development concepts to the will of the people for national unification.
On Monday, Abazi submitted his “irrevocable resignation” as the leader of Vetevendosje.
Abazi ran as an independent candidate at the parliamentary polls held in April but did not secure a seat in parliament,
