Albania at low risk for monkeypox, committee of experts formed

Monkeypox has been declared a global emergency.

Even though it’s not spreading at the same speed as COVID-19, this disease has nonetheless turned into a major concern.

The ministry of health said that our country is part of the low-risk region. However, all measures have been taken and a Committee of Experts has been formed.

“We’ve strengthened all our capacities in our virology lab at the Institute of Public Health. At the moment, 3.250 test samples have arrived at the Institute that will help us diagnose and identify monkeypox,” – said Manastirliu.

Albanian doctors are receiving all necessary training from WHO experts, in order to be able to tell the difference between regular chickenpox and monkeypox because symptoms are almost the same, like high fever, redness, swelling and headaches.

So far, over 16,000 people have contracted the virus in 72 countries. Monkeypox can also spread through sexual intercourse.
