Despite international support, the Justice Reform has not restored Albanians’ faith in the justice system. Asked by the Barometer in Euronews Albania how justice works today compared to 5 years ago, 35.4% of them think that nothing has changed.

While 28.1% of them expressed that our justice system has deteriorated. 6.7% of respondents think that justice is much worse than it was 5 years ago.

Only 27.3% of respondents think that the reformed justice system is better. While only 0.1% think it’s much better.

Among those who think that justice has deteriorated, men predominate with 41% and 28.8% are women. While among those who think that justice has improved in the last 5 years, the difference is smaller, women predominate with 28.9% and men represent 25.9% of respondents.

Divided by age groups, those who think that justice is better are the 18-24 age group with 36.2%, followed by the 65-75 age group with 34%, 55-64 years who occupy 29.4%, 45-54 years who occupy 24.9 %, 25-34 years old with 23.9% and 35-45 years old with 20.9%.

While among those who think that justice is worse, the 25-34 age group prevails with 41.2%, followed by the 35-44 age group with 38.2%, 55-64 years with 36.6%, 45-54 years with 33.9%, 18 -24 years old with 28.3% and the age group 65-75 years old with 23.7%.

The numbers do not look promising at all for the future of justice in our country.

Asked how Albanians see the justice system 5 years from now, only 31.1% answered that it will be better, only 0.2% says it will be much better, while 29.9% think nothing will change.

25.4% think that justice after 5 years will be worse and 5.6% think that it will be much worse.

Divided by gender, among those who think it will be worse, men predominate with 36.9%, while women occupy 25.2%.

Among those who expect an improvement of the justice system, women predominate with 31.7% and men occupy 30.9%.

Meanwhile, divided by age groups, among those who think that justice will be better, the age groups of 18-24 years and 65-75 years prevail. While among those who think that justice will worsen, the 25-34 and 35-44 age groups predominate.

These findings were pulled out by Euronews Albania’s Barometer in collaboration with MBR and Data Centrum, carried out from 9-21 September 2022, through 1000 face-to-face interviews conducted at a national scale.
