The Conference of Chairpersons convened Tuesday to set the date for the third round of negotiations for Albania’s new president after the first two rounds failed as there were no nominees proposed.

The floor leader of the Socialist Party Taulant Balla proposed holding the third round of the negotiations on  May 30 at 10 AM.

“We hope to have a vote and elect the president”, Balla said.

Balla added that Socialists will not put forward any nominee on that day.

On the other hand, the floor leader of the Democratic Party Enkelejd Alibeaj accused the ruling majority of trying to pick a president unilaterally.

“We asked for a joint process where the opposition is not simply there to fill in the spot. They backstepped from that. They want to go to the fourth round. We did what we were supposed to do”, said Alibeaj.
