During his word before Parliament, DP’s floor leader Enkelejd Alibeaj called the project for the new Port of Durres a corrupt affair.
“A massive theft of your assets. 54 minutes of your time for 2.1 billion for his own pocket. In his speech, he tried to raise the weight of patriotism in the hearts of Albanians. The same old speech that we heard for the incinerators. Today, after so many years of the incinerator affair, what we can count as evidence of the justice system working is the number of deputy ministers who are currently behind bars. What is happening today is nothing but a first scene that will precede the number of ministers and deputies that will go behind the bars. The only one who is saved is the one who collected the loot and ran away. The one who didn’t put down any signitures. To clearly understand what is happening, let me ask you this, why was there no competition? Why is there no fair race? Where did this famous Alabaari come from; after taking his camels from the Middle East with bags full of cash? Why was there no competition? The port of Durres is a precious commodity but it has no owners. When you haven’t poured your own sweat and blood in it, you sell it, give it away for free, waste it, when in fact it is the property of all Albanian citizens”, said Alibeaj.
The Democratic MP further stated that the government has the votes to approve this project, but they will bear criminal responsibility for it in the end.
“You have the votes, you will vote for him, sure. How is it possible that this investor, who may be an honorable name, I don’t know, how is it possible that the only strategic investor out of the 34 that you have given so far, you have not legally covered the clientelism and tutelage that you are doing to give away the wealth of the Albanians? And we’re also giving him legal cover. For the very simple reason: to distribute the criminal responsibility with the rest of you, with all those who will vote for this law. There is no other way to explain it. An investor comes to us with a flying carpet with 80 million euros for 818 thousand square meters. And while we earn, how much the Albanians earn, at best 280 million euros, it is a fortune estimated today at 780 million. After 20 years, let’s get 280 million euros. This is using the port of Durrës, Albania as a commodity without a god. And he comes here with great patriotic pathos with old verses selling to us the great act, which he is apparently doing for the benefit of Albania, to develop it. As he did with the incinerators, it was pure garbage back then, and it’s pure garbage today as well. Some people will have to submit to justice. My appeal is to you, MPs of the ruling majority, who simply take the card to vote, be careful, not only public blame and moral shame but also criminal responsibility will fall upon you if you do not vote in the interest of your constituents and the public property”. said Alibeaj.
