Architect Dorina Musai accused the ministry of culture of ruining our national heritage monuments through its various restoration projects all over the country.

According to Musai, the ministry is collaborating with other institutions under its jurisdiction, by setting in motion a ‘destructive game’ which is bringing down monuments that hold significant cultural, historical and architectural value.

During her interview on Euronews Albania’s Good Morning, the architect warned that the government is taking these national monuments under its wing by initially making them part of restoration and reconstruction projects, but in the end, they just end up getting destroyed.

“Let’s take the November 17 cinema as an example. It’s the exact same model of destruction that gets applied everywhere, where the object is completely destroyed and substituted with a new one. They imitate the façade and present it as the same monument. The same thing happened at the stadium in Tirana. There’s no value to all of this, it’s nothing but a scam,” – she said.

In addition, Musai called these instances, examples of an all-out massacre that is being signed off by the Construction Institute and the Institute of Cultural Monuments.

“They’ve signed off orders to destroy these monuments of cultural significance. They used the earthquake as an excuse. The ministry of culture is working with a double-standard…their decisions are only based on personal interest,” – concluded Musai.
