DP chairman Lulzim Basha called a meeting of DP’s district leaders today to discuss the next steps for the Democratic Party from here on out.

Calls for Basha’s resignation have been on the rise lately, especially after DP’s poor results at the local by-elections on March 6.

Sources from Democrats who attended today’s meeting, say that Basha argued that the current situation Democrats find themselves in is only a result of the decision to expel Sali Berisha from the party’s parliamentary group, following his public designation from the United States.

“We didn’t come here through our own doing or our own mistakes but due to the decision made back on September 9. And we stand with our decision made back on Sept 9. We understand that we don’t stand a chance with a non-grata amongst us. What does serve us today, is to have a responsible discussion amongst our college leaders because it is this very college that carries a heavy burden…We can’t undo September 9, or else we face having the entire Democratic Party come undone as a result,” – said Basha, according to an unidentified Democrat.

In addition, Basha is cited to have reiterated his stance that he is putting everything at his disposal in order to come to a solution, not specifying, however, what he means by ‘everything’.
