Former PM Sali Berisha met with Democrats in Patos for the 31st anniversary of the foundation of the Democratic Party branch in the city.
During the meeting, Berisha commented on several recent statements made by the US ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim, about the level of corruption in our country.
“I can guarantee they won’t be able to find a single thing to back up the smear campaign they’ve launched against me, not in a hundred years. But on the other hand, this motivates me to continue my battle,” – said the former DP chair.
Berisha continued by calling the ambassador an ‘ideological secretary for the Socialist Party’, and a personal ‘spokesperson for Basha’.
In addition, he made indirect accusations about her encouraging corruption in Albania.
‘We are pro-American and we welcome American investors. I tell them, however, to refrain from encouraging direct public procurements in this country. No matter, where they come from, they are corrupt. If you are interested in the fight against corruption and in growing foreign investments, you should insist on open tenders instead,” – said Berisha.
