3 pelicans were found dead on the Albanian side of Prespa Lake.
After running several lab tests, health specialists concluded that the pelicans had died as a result of bird flu.
A few days ago, the Agency for the Protection and Preservation of the Environment announced that instances of bird flu had been confirmed in the Greek side of Prespa Lake.
On Sunday, the first case of bird flu was confirmed in a breeding chicken farm in Durres.
The Ministry of Agriculture underlined that the epidemiologic investigation suggested that this is an isolated case.
After this incident, the Food Safety and Veterinary Agency in Kosovo decided to ban all imports of chicken products from the city of Durres.
Authorities have underlined that the virus can’t be passed from birds to humans but they do advise citizens to cook the meat thoroughly at temperatures higher than 70°C.
