382 thousand chickens have died as a result of bird flu.
The ministry of agriculture announced that the sale of birds and their transport from the farm to the market has been banned.
So far, there have been three hotbeds of infections; Durres, Dibra and Korca, whereas authorities have kicked off the process of burying the dead birds.
“It is important for vendors and the general public to understand that they will need to take all necessary measures to prevent the spread of this influenza or the bird flu in open and closed spaces. This order will be in force in 3 districts, Durres, Diber and Korca,” – said deputy minister Ermira Gjeci.
On Sunday, the first case of bird flu was identified in a chicken farm in Durres.
In addition, the Agency of Food and Veterinary in Kosovo banned all chicken imports from the city of Durres.
