The municipality of Korca declared this Sunday that the calls for withdrawing the invitation to musician Goran Bregovic, to sing at the annual Beer Fest are being made for political gains.
The participation of Bregovic, who comes from a combination of nationalities of former Yugoslavia, has been deemed wrong by many Albanian and foreign artists. According to them, Bregovic has inspired the massacres in Kosovo by including verses in his music, dedicated to Serbian soldiers.
However, according to the Muncipality of Korca, all these reactions are “part of a scenario that triggers division and conflict”.
“With dignity and wisdom, Korca and the residents of Korca are simply refusing to become part of this trap of political instrumentalization of a festival, which for years has invited singers from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Greece, Holland, Sweden, England, Italy, France, US and now a Serbian-Croatian singer born in Bosnia is coming to perform,” – is said in their statement.
The Municipality of Korce called those that use the wounds of Albanians of Kosovo, insensitive.
The Beer Fest is going to take place from August 18-22nd and the municipality invited everyone to come and celebrate with civility.
