In tonight’s ‘Shock’ on Euronews Albania, analyst Andi Bushati argued that ‘state capture’ by those involved in crime in Albania, is one of the main reasons why our country is being refused accession negotiations by the European Union.
Bushati also commented on the progress report published today by the European Commission, saying that is doesn’t hold a lot of value, seeing that in the end, it’s the member states that decide and so far, they’ve refused to open negotiations with Albania.
According to Bushati, a country like Albania that is led by a government, which has so far had 2 out of it 4 interior minister, be involved in drug trafficking affairs, can’t possibly fulfill the criteria set forth by the EU to become a member.
“There is no democratic country in the world, where crime is inexistent; From the US all the way to Greece, crime is out there. The point is how the government deals with crime. If 2 out of 4 of your Interior Ministers are implicated in drug trafficking, you’re not at the level of the Netherlands, regardless of the amounts of drugs that pass through its ports. When two of your Interior Ministers have been involved in drug trafficking, then this country doesn’t fall within the criteria necessary to become an EU member. It falls under the criteria of those countries that need to be isolated with barbed wire,” – said Bushati.
