The Mayor of Has, Liman Morina, told Euronews Albania that the bust of Queen Elizabeth II will be placed in the main square of the city of Has.
Morina said that the decision is expected to be made during the next meeting of the Municipal Council, while also underlining that the statue will be funded by Albania emigrants.
“The idea of putting a statue of Elizabeth II in Has will have a great effect. The Hasians have benefited greatly from the United Kingdom. Over 80% of Hasian families are fed and supported by [immigrants in] the UK. The Municipal Council will make a decision this Monday on the placement of the statue’s site and the designation within the main square. It will be located in the central square. The funding will be provided by immigrants living in the United Kingdom”, he said.
Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96 and went down in history as the longest-living British monarch. Elizabeth II was also the longest-serving queen of any country. She remained on the throne for 70 years, since the year 1952 when she took over following her father’s death.
