Expert of local governance, Agron Haxhimali, shared his concerns regarding the closure of physical public offices during his interview for Euronews Albania.
Haxhimali argues that around 600 thousand senior citizens don’t possess the necessary qualification to use the alternative digital systems that have been put in place.
In addition, he said that although he hasn’t conducted a proper study to back this up, he bases his argument on his knowledge of this older generation.
Meanwhile, around 200 thousand citizens who suffer from various disabilities cannot use these technological devices which makes their access to these services more difficult.
Another concern expressed by Haxhimali, was infrastructure.
This applies to those individuals who may have the knowledge but don’t own the necessary devices.
According to the expert, lack of an internet connection will also be an issue that will further the gap between citizens and public service providers.
