The Constitutional Court has concluded its examination of the Parliament’s request to impeach president Ilir Meta. The judicial panel is expected to issue a formal ruling on Meta’s impeachment within the next 30 days.
At the end of today’s session, the head of SP’s parliamentary group Taulant Balla, said that parties should let the judiciary decide without the need to comment.
In addition, the president’s advisor, Bledar Dervishaj declared that Parliament hasn’t only made unlawful decisions, but that the legal acts that they submitted in court have been manipulated.
He declared that the President will be suing Parliament for submitting manipulated documents.
A few days ago, the Constitutional forwarded a total of 70 questions to president Meta, which they expect to have answered by the end of the day.
Last week, the Constitutional Court began the legal proceedings to address the Parliament’s request to impeach Meta on arguments that he breeched the Constitution by openly siding with the Democratic Party during and after the electoral campaign in April 2021.

On February 3, the President submitted paperwork that consisted of 140 pages, where he argued that the legitimacy of the Parliament’s vote on his impeachment, could be disputed, seeing that the Socialist supermajority could be using this as a personal act of revenge.
On June 9, the Parliament voted in favor of Meta’s impeachment with 104 votes in favor. At this point, it will be up to the Constitutional to decide whether or not the president should be impeached.
