6 districts will be voting for their new mayors in the municipal elections on March 6.

These special elections will be an important test for the country’s main political parties, as around 17% of all eligible voters in Albania’s parliamentary elections, will be able to exercise their right come March.

The largest municipality in these elections will be Durres, which has around 110 thousand voters.

The Democratic Party hasn’t won a single election in Durres, for the past 2 decades.

The second one is the Municipality of Shkoder, which has around 70 000 voters and is also known as the ‘Democratic bastion’ – however, the latest rift within DP has cast doubts into the possibility of DP winning this municipality also.

Ranked third in the list is the Municipality of Lushnje, with around 49 000 voters, followed by Dibra with 30 000, Vora with 16 000 and Rrogozhina with 11 000.
