The Democratic Party has come out with an official statement attacking the Home of Freedom coalition and saying that none of Berisha’s and Meta’s candidates have anything to do with DP or Democrats.
According to DP, Berisha is manipulating Democrats by choosing candidates than can only represent Ilir Meta’s party – the SMI – because even though it is part of the same coalition as SMI, Berisha’s DP faction won’t be allowed to participate in these elections, at least under the same name.
Each vote for this coalition, according to DP, will be acquired through yet another one of Rama’s and Meta’s vote-rigging deals.
“Sali Berisha and his candidates are no part of the SMI and even though it’s clear that they feel no shame for having adhered to this party, they have most importantly nothing to do with DP, however much they try to manipulate voters by using our name and our symbols. Democrats know too well that Ilir Meta hs used the government and their votes, through his infamous deal with Rama back in 2013. Today, he is doing the same thing. That’s why, whoever votes for Meta and Berisha, is truly voting to keep Rama in government!” – states DP’s official reaction.
