Democratic Party chairman, Lulzim Basha, called the local by-elections of March 6, ‘just another anomaly in the long line of anomalies’ in Albania – referring to the 2019 elections which were boycotted by DP.
When asked by journalists about DP’s poor results in these by-elections – after which Democrats ranked last in all of the 6 municipalities participating in the race – Basha said that this is just more evidence of the grave need for a thorough reform, especially an electoral one.
Basha also argued that the low voter turnout simply goes to show that citizens are refusing to participate and this puts DP before an important responsibility. ‘We now need to undergo a thorough introspection so that we can finally break our links with its past,’ – said Basha.
