DP’s parliamentary group won’t be convening this evening, as was planned previously.
The news was confirmed by the Democratic MP and secretary of DP’s caucus, Arbi Agalliu.
The reason for this discord was a declaration made by the leader of SP’s caucus, Taulant Balla, who said earlier today that if the candidate proposed by the opposition doesn’t get elected during the second and third rounds of voting, then the head of state will be chosen directly from the Socialist Party during the fourth round.
Balla’s explanation was deemed a violation of the agreement by the leader of DP’s caucus, Enkelejd Alibeaj, thus leading to the end of the SP-DP deal on the new president.
Yesterday, Alibeaj had forewarned that if the ruling majority would overturn the candidature for president proposed by the opposition, then the deal would be immediately called off.
