Lawyer Adriatiak Lapaj says that Albania will have the highest price of electricity in the entire region, with the new government scheme for the distribution of power consumption bands, where citizens will have to pay more if they use more than 800-kilowatt hours.

During his appearance on Euronews Albania’s ‘SOT’, Lapaj said that the government has agreed that an Albanian family usually needs to consume this much energy on average.

According to him, there are tens of thousands of Albanian families in the country that should be included in the economic aid scheme as far as subsidizing electricity is concerned.

“What I can say is that prices today, compared to our neighbors are much higher, especially after the new scheme. This is an act of self-incrimination from the Albanian government that it unintentionally agreed to today. In the Republic of Albania, there are tens and thousands of families who are on economic assistance, they are disabled, they are pensioners who have very low incomes, who should be in the economic assistance scheme as far as subsidizing electricity is concerned,” – argued Lapaj.

This Thursday, Prime Minister Edi Rama and Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku presented the second anti-crisis package for citizens as well as the measures the government is taking to tackle the energy crisis.

Balluku said that those who spend more than 800 kWh will pay a fee of 42 LEK more.

The price will be applied 35 LEK per kWh, for each kilowatt above the set 800 kWh band in addition to 7 lek transmission and the distribution fee.

By placing this price ceiling from October 1 to December 2023, the minister stated that we will be able to save a total of 100 million euros.
