The European Parliament Rapporteur for Kosovo, Viola von Cramon, told local media KosovaPress during an interview that the so-called “non-papers” on changing Balkan borders were compiled in Moscow and Belgrade, adding that the main objective is destabilizing the region.

“I will just ignore this because the majority of the non-papers drafted not in the EU, but in Moscow, Belgrade and Budapest create a lot of fear, panic, and trauma, and their intent is mainly to destabilize the region rather than bring a reconciliation process and this is very sad, very unfortunate, and we need to discuss the repercussions they have on the people in the region, hence we should not take them in consideration. I would want to ignore them. It’s a very toxic topic and of course, it wasn’t drafted in Brussels”, said Von Cramon.

She briefly commented on yesterday’s clashes at the Western Balkans Summit held in Tirana, between Kosovan Prime Minister Albin Kurti and his Serbian counterpart Ana Brnabic.

PM Kurti explained that the debate arose after Brnabic refused to recognize Kosovo’s independence, while according to Von Cramon, Serbia needs to accept the reality.

“I wasn’t at the table so it is hard to comment on that. It is unfortunate that we’re still at this point”, Von Cramon said. “I will try through the Commission to exert some pressure on Serbia that they should be ready to accept some of the necessities, reality, and the fact that Kosovo is on the right path and that we will need something like that from Serbia for the path towards European integration, which involves recognizing Kosovo or any deal in which Kosovo enters as an equal”.
