The EU Special Envoy for the Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak and the US Deputy Assistant Secretary overseeing policy towards the countries of the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar are traveling to Kosovo and Serbia next week.

It was EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell who confirmed the visit of the two senior diplomats.

In a joint press conference with Serbian prime minister Ana Brnabic in Brussels, Borrel said that the visit aims to show commitment for the continuation of the dialogue and normalize ties between Kosovo and Serbia.

Borrell put the blame for the current stalemate on several officials in Prishtina.

“I want to make it clear to Kosovo that the dialogue is not held for the sake of the dialogue, but because it is key in advancing the European path. Together with Lajcak, we’ll continue to prepare for the next meeting, but that will only happen if the two sides find common language over positive and substantial results. That’s why Lajcak and I will continue to engage with the parties involved, especially with Kosovo, which is showing that it is not willing to sit at the table”, cited Radio Free Europe Borrell as saying.

Kosovo and Serbia sat down to dialogue in 2011. The last high-level meeting between Kosovo’s Albin Kurti and Serbia’s Aleksandar Vucic took place last July.
