The US special envoy for the Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, told VOA that it is important for the region to distance itself from Russian energy.

He stated that the situation created in Ukraine will not affect the Western Balkans and Moscow does not intend to attack the region, however, energy is a strong point in the Russian war, from which distance is needed.

“Kosovo is an extremely good partner in the region, it is a competent country in our relationship in the region. Everything we can do to deepen the cooperation, we are happy to do it”, he said after the signing of the energy agreement between the Millennium Challenges Corporation and Kosovo for Voice of America.

He added that despite the various challenges, all countries in the region have the support and attention of the United States.
