Brussels is looking forward to the results of the referendum held in Serbia on amending the Constitution to allow more independence for the judiciary.
EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell hosted Serbian prime minister Ana Brnabic in Brussels. Another topic on the agenda is the country’s EU bid.
Brussels is calling on Belgrade to pursue the reforms on integration, praising the Western Balkan nation for being on the right path.
“Rule of law, economic and administrative reforms, as well as our green agenda are the top priorities. These will be the main areas to work on for European integration”, said Serbia’s Brnabic.
The most difficult hurdle for Serbia remains Kosovo, with EU officials noting that an agreement is ‘essential’ for regional stability.
“Kosovo and Serbia must reach an agreement that allows Kosovo Serbs to vote in Serbian elections”, said Borrell.
Since Europe’s security is at stake, the EU wants to avoid any potential political turmoil in the region and urged countries to cooperate.
The bloc is also calling on Belgrade to tone down its revisionist rhetoric among the Bosnian Serb entity over the genocide committed in the 90s.
