The former narcotics officer, who reported ex-minister of interior Saimir Tahiri – Dritan Zagani – said that he was given a longer sentence for the exact same crime.

“Saimir Tahiri was sentenced to 3 and a half years for abuse of power – my former boss – for what I said about him. Yet, I got 4.5 years, for the exact same crime [abuse of power]” – said Zagani on Euronews Albania’s NOW.

According to Zagani, the relationship between the crime world and the judiciary will always be there, but it will no longer be as out in the open as it was back when Tahiri was serving as minister. In addition, he said that Tahiri’s sentence was insufficient especially in relation to the damages caused as a result of his actions or lack thereof.

Moreover, Zagani said that the interpretation of the law in this scenario should be carefully studied while claiming that during this entire time, he has never been presented with a single piece of evidence that supports the court’s claims against him.

The former officer of the anti-drug unit is currently in Switzerland where he has applied for asylum. He said that were he given some reassurance, he would return to Albania in no time but seeing that justice will never prevail, he finds it difficult to believe that he ever will.
