The Romanian national football team will face of Kosovo in the qualifying phase of the European Championship “EURO 2024”.

Romania does not recognize the existence of the state of Kosovo, so Teodor Melescanu, the former Romanian Foreign Minister, believes that the best solution would be for his country’s footballers not to play in these matches and lose both table matches.

But this would mean jeopardizing their chances for qualification, local media wrote.

“Kosovo is not recognized by a number of countries, including us, Romania. We have never recognized the independence of Kosovo. Normally, what can be done at this moment is for our football federation, through Răzvan Burleanu, to discuss with other countries that have the same position as Romania, and together they will have to decide on a path that does not destroy the whole system.

Therefore, I would say that the FRF will have to find a solution. If not, what can be done is to lose 3-0 with Kosovo”, said the former Foreign Minister.

Kosovo’s national team has been introduced to its opponents for the qualifying phase of the European Championship “Euro 2024” after the draw that was held in Frankfurt, Germany.

The draw, on paper, looks somewhat favorable for the Dardanians as the big teams have been avoided and the dream of participating in “EURO 2024” seems feasible.

Kosovo will play in Group I, which includes Switzerland, Israel, Romania, Belarus and Andorra.
