Serious violations of the Highway Code have cost the license of 660 drivers in Albania. For road expert, Fadil Lika, the most alarming fact is that only 12% of those who return to driving school manage to regain their driving license.

“We look at it from two perspectives. Either they have a stricter control to get their driving license back, or they are a reflection of all drivers in relation to their knowledge. Road safety in Albania is not at the right levels and these drivers are usually in serious violation. They are drivers who consume alcohol or narcotics. Without excluding the users of the vehicle who drive at a speed exceeding the permitted norms,” said Lika.

The expert considers that it is necessary for real studies, while adding that controls are what increase security the most.

“It’s a good thing to understand that drivers can lose their license and it’s hard to get it back, it increases the responsibility of citizens who commit traffic offenses that can be the cause of losing people’s lives,” said Lika.

Violation of traffic rules often has fatal consequences. Only in the month of September, in Albania, were registered 93 road accidents with 122 injured people.

“80-83% of the number of accidents are caused by wrong overtaking, we often judge citizens not to make wrong maneuvers. Sometimes it affects the level of stress that drivers have in Albania due to interurban roads where these segments are overloaded and drivers take unsafe actions,” the expert said.

The use of the vehicles under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, according to the road expert, is another major problem, for which it requires the application of a plan of measures extending throughout Albania and not only in the capital.
