Pedestrian crossings and parking violations are amongst the main issues contributing to traffic congestion in the capital city.

This was noted by the Head of Tirana’s City Police, Gentian Vocaj, during an interview for Euronews Albania.

“Some of the issues we notice the most at Tirana’s City Police are jaywalking, double-parking, and delivery vans parking wherever and obstructing traffic. Double-parking is one of the most prominent factors causing traffic however and blocking the road,” – said Vocaj.

Another issue includes drivers that don’t follow traffic signs or traffic lights, becoming another hazard to road safety.

According to urban traffic specialist, Gerhard Baka, there’s also a definite lack of emergency lanes in Tirana, which obstructs the free flow of traffic for ambulances and firefighters.
