The targeting of SPAK not only by PM Rama – but other political figures as well – urges one to consider whether or not these attacks may be a result of notable cases that are still under investigation.
During an interview for Euronews Albania, journalist Eni Ferhati made mention of the incinerators case or the one on sterilization. He also noted that there are other cases currently under investigation, which involve mayors and directors of various levels.
Ferhati brought to the attention statistics published by the Special Prosecution which showed that in 2021, around 1.500 high officials had been under investigation.
“There is no standard in place when it comes to pressing charges against a former magistrate that was discharged as a result of the illegal accumulation of wealth or failure to declare their wealth,” – argued Ferhati.
According to him, we could be dealing with a double standard, because not all judges are facing investigation.
Vetting commissions can file charges at competent bodies but according to Ferhati, we’re only seeing a limited number of high judges that are being put under investigation, at a time when some lower-tier judges could possess even higher amounts of unjustified wealth.
