After midnight, traffic lights in the capital city don’t perform as they usually would as they start to pulsate or blink only when the light turns orange, in order to warn drivers to be more careful.
However, according to law enforcement, when they’re turned off, they become a great risk for accidents during the nighttime.
“When we combine this with other issues like loss of focus, sleep deprivation as well as the use of alcohol, which could simultaneously be combined with non-adjustment of speeding and driving over the speeding limit in residential areas, these blinking traffic lights become a major reason for roadside accidents,” – said the commander of Tirana’s District Traffic Police, Arben Bakalli.
Euronews Albania, accompanied by a highway patrol, conducted a brief inspection of the traffic in Tirana, during the early morning hours.
Deputy commissary, Arben Bakalli, introduced us to many issues that officers face on the road at night – one of them being, driving under the influence.
