The executive cannot try to damage the judiciary, said on Monday former member of the Constitutional Court Besnik Muci, in light of the call made by PM Rama on SPAK to probe into former PM Sali Berisha.

Muci considered the prime minister’s rhetoric as “populism”, which undermines the basic principles of how the Albanian state operates, as well as the independence of the judiciary.

“These declarations are of a populist nature and try to intimidate judicial organs. They undermine the basic principles on how the Albanian state functions, the independence of powers, and even more so that of the judiciary”, he said.

According to Muci, these are the acts that trigger a rift in the state.

Meanwhile, journalist Ferdinand Dervishi believes that SPAK feels under attack, adding that he considers Rama’s remarks at the National Assembly on Saturday a “huge blow” since it all happened in front of the supporters of the Socialist Party.

He said SPAK has been currently “surrounded”, as it receiving attacks not only from the Socialists but from the opposition, too.

“SPAK is an American investment; it was endorsed by the US. Going against SPAK means goes against the US”, said Dervishi.
