The former member of the National Council of the DP, Edvin Kulluri, gave an interview for Euronews Albania, during which he argued that the mistake made by the chairman of the DP, Sali Berisha, is that he promised to hold primaries but didn’t actually hold them.
In addition, Kulluri highlighted that for many Democrats, Berisha was seen as some sort of savior that would rescue the Democratic Party, but this never actually came to fruition.
“Berisha is seen as a savior by many Democrats, but this never actually happened. Berisha must accumulate enough confidence for this to happen. It is no longer an issue of Basha as an individual, but rather the behavior of the opposition leader and every other politician. This is where Berisha made a fatal mistake, by promising to hold primaries and never actually delivering on his promise” – emphasized Kulluri.
He further underlined that Berisha, together with the former chairman of the DP Lulzim Basha, are responsible for the party’s defeat in the elections on April 25.
“The very fact that there is a blocking minority is a very big problem for Berisha. The international factor is influential in opinion-making. Berisha came as the savior of the opposition, but the mistake Berisha made lies in the context because the circumstances are completely different from ’92, 2005 and 2009.
He forgets that he is the same man who, with his silence, approval, and support of Lulzim Basha, is co-responsible for what happened on April 25. Berisha’s problem is not only with this minority, but there is another part of DP’s electorate that rightly blames both Basha and Berisha,” argued Kulluri.
