Health minister Ogerta Manastirliu declared that it is too early to lift COVID-19 measures. Her statement came after a government meeting on Wednesday.
Minister Manastirliu echoed a previous statement made on Monday by WHO’s general director Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus that “it is too early for countries to declare victory” over the coronavirus pandemic.
“It is too early to proclaim victory and lift all non-medical measures. Countries are conducting epidemiological assessments based on their current local situation”, said the health minister.
“You know that the measures we have in place in Albania are considered to be of a low and medium intensity”, she added.
Manastirliu recalled that there are over 18,000 active infections, with the Omicron variant prevailing in 98% of the cases.
Albania recorded 7 deaths from COVID-19, while the official death count is 3,353.
