The State Intelligence Service, commonly known as SHISH, released its 2021 report on Saturday.
Hostile countries are interested in engaging in military drills and have made attempts to secure classified information from people working inside the administration, the report highlighted.
The public report brings a clear portrait of espionage and counterintelligence activities in the country.
“Hostile secret services have proceeded with their activities by using their actors in the region, with the aim of obstructing the advancement of Euro-Atlantic integration processes and destabilization, and producing a fragile and vulnerable situation in the Western Balkans”, declared head of SHISH, Helidon Bendo.
Espionage activities from foreign countries are prone to securing information from military drills in line with the projects of the Alliance in the defense sector.
SHISH brought the example of an eminent diplomat, dubbed ‘The Resident’, who bribed an employee of an Albanian administration called ‘Celesi’ in order to acquire classified information.
SHISH also weighed in on other aspects pertaining to national security.
The report notes that 18,000 illegal migrants passed through Albania in 2021 and warned about the imminent threat of potential terrorists.

Apart from cocaine, SHISH said cannabis cultivation has shifted in other areas and evolved from outdoor to indoor growing.
