Students living in Albania, Kosovo, and Italy were invited by Euronews Albania to talk about the various benefits they receive from having a student card in each country.
Paola Ymeti is a student in the Faculty of Foreign Languages in Tirana. According to her, a student card here offers students very little. In addition, she said that not all students in Albania care to obtain a student card.
When it comes to benefits in the transit system, Ymeti said that students don’t bother getting a student pass because according to most of them, the long lines aren’t worth the wait.
“Most students simply don’t get a bus pass because they have to wait in line for hours in order to get one,” – she said.
Fatlind Azizi, representative of the Student Council in Prishtina, talked about his experience as a student in Kosovo.
According to him, university students in his country get a student card from the start of their freshman year.
“All students here get a student card when they begin classes. Each faculty provides their own card. We usually get 50 cents or €1 euro off when buying bus tickets, which includes both inner-city and cross-country routes. Bus passes on the other hand are €2 to €3 euros cheaper than the usual price,” – he said.
Azizi also noted that as a student, living on campus only costs around €20 euros a month whereas meal plans are offered at €15 euros per month.
Meanwhile, Alberto Paloko – an Albanian student currently enrolled in an Italian University – said that students there are offered 50% off when buying transit tickets and passes.
