The chairman of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, will not be present at the protest that the Democratic Party will hold on December 6, the same day when the EU-Western Balkans Summit will take place in Tirana.
In an interview for Euronews Albania, Mediu said that on that day, he will be in Washington, at a meeting of the Democratic International.
Mediu underlined that regarding this protest, the opposition should consult with its partners, such as the European People’s Parties and the European Conservative Parties.
“I definitely appreciate that the protest is one of the most necessary political elements, especially the opposition. But nobody asked me about the December 6 protest, nor did anyone ask me for my opinion. But what I want to say is that the protest should not be turned into an end in itself for the opposition. There are several areas in which the opposition must work. Since we are in front of an important summit, the relationship between the Democratic or Republican Party and other opposition parties is important, in such moments we must have a common attitude with our partners, with the European People’s Parties, with the Conservative Parties European, even with those people or European decision-making centers, so that we don’t create wrong perceptions that could turn into a disadvantage for the opposition. I will not be because I will be in Washington at a meeting of the Democratic International taking place at the same time. If they had asked me, I would have said in the first place that we should definitely consult with the European People’s Parties, which have the main weight not only in the EP, but in the largest decision-making centers, in order not to leave a path for misinterpretations or abuse with opposition political activities”, he said.
