Citizens are more optimistic than businesses and financial agents when it comes to the level of price growth for the coming year.
From the data of the Bank of Albania, consumers predict that inflation after 12 months will be 4.59 %, closer to the neutral level targeted by the Bank of Albania, which is 3 %.
Businesses and financial agents, including banks and other financial institutions, predict a level up to three times higher than that expected by citizens. Enterprises say that the increase in prices after 12 months will be 10.6 %, while financial agents predict an increase of 9.6 %.
The Bank of Albania predicts, on the other hand, that inflation will continue to grow in the remaining months of the year and begin stabilization in the first six months of next year.
For its return to normal levels, Governor Gent Sejko stated that the second quarter of 2024 is expected. In order to curb the increase in prices, the supervisory board of the Bank of Albania increased the interest rate to 2.75 %, while it does not rule out the possibility that this rate will go to levels of 4 and 5 %.
