The Italian ambassador to Prishtina, Antonello Du Riu is optimistic that during the Czech presidency of the European Union, the first step towards visa liberalization will be possible for Kosovo.
De Riu reiterated Italy’s support for visa liberalization and the dialogue with Serbia.
“Italy’s stance on visa liberalization has been clear since the start. Italy supports visa liberalization especially because Kosovo remains the only country in the Western Balkans that is still subjected to this discipline.
Kosovan citizens understand the nature of procedures within the EU, but they certainly know that Italy will continue to support Kosovo’s stance with its European partners. We hope that during the Czech, an important step can be taken in terms of starting this process which has unfortunately been blocked to date,” – said the diplomat.
In regards to the cooperation between Italy and Kosovo, ambassador De Riu said that it will continue to strengthen.
