Former environment minister Lefter Koka arrested over a corruptive affair involving the waste incinerator of Elbasan was sent to the hospital on Friday after complaining about health problems.
Koka, accused by SPAK of the affair with an estimated damage of €3.7 million, complained of problems with blood pressure during his stay at a pretrial detention jail.
A doctor recommended the former minister do a checkup over fluctuating blood pressure.
Lefter Koka is being held in a high-security pretrial detention center in the Albanian capital, Tirana.
The former minister also secured enough votes to get a seat in parliament at the recent general polls, representing the district of Durres. However, he renounced from the post a few days before being sworn in.
He served as environment minister from 2013 to 2017, when the ruling Socialists were in a coalition with the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI).
The Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime released a warrant that led to his arrest on 14 December 2021.
The 57-year-old is a senior politician in Albania and the mayor of Durres from 2003 to 2007.
SPAK accused Koka of receiving a €3.7 million bribe from fictitious companies allegedly owned by his family members and acquaintances.
The payment was made by the administrators of the company building the Elbasan incinerator, who are also under investigation.
