“Kosovo is prepared to stand against a possible attack from Serbia as the deterioration of the situation with the Serbian minority could result in a new armed conflict.”
This is what the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said in an interview with Reuters news agency.
“We should not rule out the possibility that these aggressive policies adopted by Belgrade can eventually turn into an attack against Kosovo in one way or another. We are on alert, but not afraid. I am not saying that they will attack us this week or the next, but it would be completely irresponsible to rule out the possibility of increased tensions and new conflicts”, said Kurti.
The prime minister also accused Russia, which is Belgrade’s main ally and has vetoed Kosovo’s UN membership, of fueling new ethnic tensions.
On July 31, tensions were caused in the north of Kosovo due to the decision to implement the reciprocity of license plates and identity cards for the Serbs of the north.
The latter blocked the roads in protest using heavy tonnage trucks. Reciprocity has been postponed until September 1.
